Detecting 3D Movies

Post by bandit » Sun May 08, 2011 5:40 am

Is it possible to detect 3D encoded movies from the meta data?

(I tried to search the forums for other topics about this, but "3D" isn't a valid search term...)

Thanks!

What video format were you thinking of?
No doubt somewhere in the metadata of any video format that supports 3D there would be some way of detecting it, but I've not seen any sample 3D movie video files, nor looked for any documentation on it. If you can provide a link to a small sample file I can possibly think about adding support in the future.

But right now, no, there is no detection of 3D movies in getID3().

Suppose we can work with matroska format now: http://www.matroska.org/technical/specs/notes.html#3D
But of course only the spec is not enough - we need sample files. I'll try to find any matroska files with StereoMode element, but if somebody already has ones - please, let us know.

I have some sample files with 3D video and working on imlementing it now. Most likely 3D detecting support will be included in 1.9.4. But unfortunatelly, as I've mensioned, not all 3D videos can be identified as 3D, because they do not have proper flags set, just the 3D video stream.

Not that that has much to do with detecting 3D encoding.

That's not correct :)

I've done significant improvements in matroska, riff and flac modules. All major existing problems in theese modules are also fixed. I just need to do some more testing, but unfortunatelly had no free time for that in the past time. I'll try to finish within two weeks!

Good to hear, I look forward to your new modules when they're ready.
