A more meaningful name for audio formats

Post by WaldoMonster » Wed Oct 22, 2003 6:50 pm

A new dataformat could be [audio][dataname]
And will return MP3, Musepac, OGG Vorbis, etc

['audio']['dataformat'] already returns 'vorbis' for vorbis files.
It would be nice if it returns 'musepac' instead of 'mpc'.
Maybe there are other audio or video formats that can return a more meaningful name.
Or must it be cryptic for some reasons?

It is Musepack, not Musepac.

I suppose we could return the more meaningful names such as "MPEG Audio Layer 3", "Free Lossless Audio Codec", "Lossless Predictive Audio Compression" instad of the usual MP3, FLAC and LPAC.

Maybe not.

Yes it must be Musepack .

Every video and audio format return a ['audio'/'video']['dataformat']
But not every ['audio'/'video']['codec'] returns a value.
The ['audio'/'video']['codec'] could be the place to return more meaningful names.
